AccurateRip comparison database... how big is it?

$

I have just downloaded and installed the unregistered version of PerfectTUNES. The concept seems great, but after a run through, I am concerned about the results.

After reading a thread about WMA compatibility, I re-downloaded the installer to try again.

I created a test folder with just 21 albums in. All of these albums have been ripped direct from CD with windows media player (in Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit), as WMA lossless audio files. Out of 21 albums, 20 of them were not present in AccurateRip. The one album that seemed to be, failed on 12 out of 13 tracks, with the "Not Enough Information in AccurateRip to Verify" error.

That's close to 100% failure, just on 21 albums. Which makes me question just how big the database is, that my collection will be compared against. If it's going to fail on almost my full collection, it's just not worth me purchasing it... yet.

Edit: I have just ripped an album that previously failed, to .WAV with dbPowerAmp CD Ripper. That's compares with AccurateRip as it rips, and it said it was perfect. I tried PerfectTUNES on the ripped album, and that also said it was perfect.

I then tried ripping that same album to WMA 9.2 Lossless using CD Ripper, that ripped as 100% accurate. I then ran PerfectTUNES on that folder, and it also said it was perfect.

As a final test, I re-ripped the album again to WMA lossless, using Windows Media Player on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC, and that failed on 12 of the 13 tracks.

Which begs the question... what is Media Player doing to the files, that is causing PerfectTUNES to fail to such a vast extent?

PerfectTUNES not picking up album art on my NAS

I have a ReadyNAS NV+ with arounfd 600 albums on it in FLAC format. It uses Twonky. I ran PerfectTUNES and in the app itself all the album art appears, except for an obscure handful. However, when I run the Linn Kinsky app which controls the Linn streamers, no more album art appears than before - i.e. lots of blanks. In another location I have RipNAS running Asset. Will it work better on that?

Feature Request: Check encoded tracks with AccurateRip based on ACCURATERIPRESULT

Hi,

One thing I was hoping PerfectTunes would do is to verify the accuracy of a previous rip made with dbPowerAmp CD Ripper even if the encoding is lossy.

When I rip a newly released CD, it is rarely in the AccurateRip database. If I want to ensure it's accurately ripped, all I can do now is to rip it again a few months later.

Based on the ACCURATERIPDISCID and ACCURATERIPRESULT tags (the latter having the AccurateRip CRC in square brackets), I was hoping PerfectTunes could verify a rip afterwards, saving the need to re-rip the CD entirely.

Since I'm one of those crazy people who still buy a lot of new CD's, this would make things much easier for me!

Cheers!

FingerPrintGenerator.exe error

I just installed PerfectTunes (free download) to see if it works for me. But while running the program and scanning my mp3 collection, it immediately says "FingerprintGenerator.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." This error message keeps coming and coming every 20 seconds. The program is not quitting, but very slowly indexing the mp3's. Right now it has come to song number 85 in about 10 minutes.
This problem occurs while running Album Art and while running Dedup. I have 63K songs, and the remaining time is 12 days...

How to Change Album Art

$

Sorry, but this newbie is lost again. The album art options from "Choose Art" do not include that album art I want to use (Original Master Recording). I have scanned the cover and created a .jpg file. How do I import/embed this new art to replace the one that dBpoweramp created/installed?

I have searched the forum and came across answers that suggest to use "Edit: tags" or "ID: Update", etc. But where do I find these commands? Another post suggested right clicking in Windows Explorer, but I can't find any option there either. I just installed dBpoweramp Tag Update, but running that only takes me to a "Help" page. Under DSP settings, I see an "Import Art" function and pointed to the file I scanned. but nothing happened. In specific steps, can someone please tell me how to do this. Thanks.

FLAC Problem - 2 (continued)

Greetings, everybody.

This is my second post regarding this subject.
I have already posted two follow-ups - on the thread called FLAC Problem - which don't seem to appear anywhere!?
Maybe they didn't reached the site, so, once more, I'm hoping someone can help me...

I'm using «dBpoweramp R 14.4» with an old «Fujitsu-Siemens s7100» (Intel T-2500 2.0GHz/4GB of RAM) with Win XP Prof SP3, and already posted the "Secure Extraction Log" of one of the CDs in the thread 'FLAC Problem'.
I'm doing a "RIP to MultiEncoder" with «FLAC», «WAV AsSource» and «WAV 320kbps~48KHz» as the chosen formats.

With all the discs I've ripped sofar - for "«dBpoweramp» fine tuning & future routine procedures" - I'm stumbling upon the same problem:
No error reported, but while on the (critical) listening test (of the FLAC file) there are songs with small missing parts/bits of sound, ie, audible drop-outs or issues; it affects one to three tracks a disc.
Strangely enough (or not, you tell me...), both other (WAVs) files do not present any problem!
The same (problem) happens if I just convert only to «FLAC» (using single encoder).

By now, I've already changed settings, drives - purchased the (here) most recommended one - but still no cigar, even with the most conservative/high quality/slow settings!
I also followed Spoon's suggestion, and installed the Calculate Audio CRC codec, then converted both the FLAC and WAVs files to this 'encoder', after which the same conversion CRC number shows, implying the same audio content and likely an issue with the used player - the same utilized to record - not reading FLAC correctly might be happening...
However, the very same system and CDs are converter to «FLAC» flawlessly with «JRiver Media Center 18.0.212»...

Please help - I'm having a hard time believing there's nothing wrong with my purchased «dBpoweramp R 14.4» - and just don't know what to do any more! :headbang:

TIA,
Warm regards,

Hi,

I just installed Perfect Tunes and I am using De-Dup. When I hit the play button to listen to the songs it briefly appears to attempt to play the song (play button changes to pause button) but after about 5 seconds, the button changes back to the play icon and the file is not played. Thanks for any help. I am running Windows 7.

Path and Naming questions

Geetings to everyone! I sent Mr. Spoon a question and was directed to the forums for help. I will always take the long way around the barn so please forgive my lack of brevity? I got dbpoweramp and an Acronova dupliQ working and was able to rip 170+ CDs(2196 Tracks, flac) in a little over 10 hours. I did it in one long batch and paused several times when I was away from the are! I then converted the flac files to mp3(lame) in another folder. I am impressed and thrilled! I have been able to get some of my music to my and my wife's portable players and am listening to music. I consider this first ripping session an experiment and learned some things that I want to change before I start my real rip right rip once undertaking. My collection is virtually all "classical" and I will have dozens of such sessions before I get all of the music archived to flac. My wife has a much smaller collection of modern music and I am sure that as I get the ripping and naming of my music figured out I will be able to get her music archived as well. In the first ripping session I was just thrilled that the dbpoweramp software and the robot worked flawlessly after a few hiccups at the beginning of the run. The standard path and naming structureswere left in place for this first run. I relized that the file names and paths are less than optimal for my puproses. Let me make clear that dbpa did exactly as it was told and performed beyond my expectation and this post is in NO WAY meant voice my displeasure with it! Windows 7 will not allow file names beyond a certain length to be moved or worked on in other ways. I know that I could spend the time with software to manipulate the current flac files I have but in reality these represent less than 5% of the total files I will have to rip and convert so I feel that starting at the beginning is how I will proceed. Since the first experimental ripping session I have tried to change parameters within the program and do further testing. I tried to look on these forums for answers to my question but have had no luck. I attribute this to my ignorance and nothing else! MY ignorance did lead me to choose my username. I have health issues that make time more important to me than in years past so I am forced to asking for help. The smartest most efficient thing I can do is ask the experts. In his responce to me Mr. Spoon suggested posting to the forum and that help would be forthcoming and without cost. I realize that people's time is valuable and although I am ignorant I do not wish to free load! If I were to pay a service to rip and archive my music it would cost money.I am willing to pay someone to help me get the answers I need, I could send money via paypal. I will actually take great pleasure in ripping, archiving and cataloging my own music. Im getting to the point I promise! My inability to correctly tell the program(s) what to do applies both the batch ripper and cd ripper. I have a large number of box sets and I want these to be ripped to a root folder on the C(main) drive or an external drive(?). Then to a subfolder like Beethoven. I want the box sets to be named so they stay grouped by disk number ie, Disk 1 of 157. The name of a track on a classical cd can be liteally 100 characters long so using the track title as an identifier in the file name is not ideal. again I have had no luck figuring out how to tell the sofware what to do. I am certain dbpa has the capability to do what I want? I hope someone can help me but please realize that my understanding of the intricies of dbpa is many factors of magnitude less than most of you. There are many things that I don't know like should I run each "box set" as a seperate batch etc. I probably have not been specific enough in the explaning what I want to accomplish? If anyone wishes to take the time to help me, as a paid "tutor" thru pm correspondance or other wise, please let me know! Do to reasons beyond my control I may not respond rapidly, please dont take this as I lack thankfulness or interest. If you have read this far thanks for your time Captain Zero

Changing Tags??

Hi.

Would it be possible to change tags with Perfect Tunes on already ripped material??

E.g. when going from freedb to GD3 ??

Otherwise PT is nothing more than an automated (IMO rather expensive) cover art finder.

To fix album art when the web search doesn't find anything the only option I have is to edit the ID-Tag. I find an appropriate picture, save as folder.jpg but PerfectTUNES doesn't pick it up, only appears to look at ID-Tag files. Am I missing something or could this be considered for a future release?

Database Cache Sharing

I have my music on a NAS and there are around 35K tunes. I have a media center PC directly connected which takes around 7 hours to scan the lot whereas my laptop takes a day and then some over wifi or power cable networking. It would be wonderful if I could generate the cache on the media centre PC then use it on the laptop to correct album art. I don't mind re-scanning on the media centre after I have made corrections on the laptop. I could see issues with the drive mappings having to be IP based to ensure consistency across PCs, alternatively an option to save the cache on the NAS might be a solution?

Shell extension/property handler problem and request

$

Hello,
I came here to complain about the way that dBpoweramp Windows Shell Extension/Property Hanlder works. The main problem is with RATING value. Normally, Windows internal property handler for mp3 files writes rating not as just straight values which are number of chosen stars, but use specific let's say "encoding". So for example 5 stars means that value written in tag is "99", 4 stars means that value written in tag is "75" and so on. As far as I know it is called "popularimeter" and for mp3 files it is stored in POPM flame of ID3 tags. Unfortunately, for FLAC files dBpoweramp writes just numbers corresponding to the number of stars clicked in Explorer. And this is currently huge problem for me which has a story behind, and the beginning of further problems and complaints about dBpoweramp.
The story goes like this: I was looking for property handler for FLAC files. I found "AJD FLAC Property Handler" which was OK. But I wanted more - I wanted property handler for AIFF files. I was told, that dBpoweramp offers such property handler and I installed it. I was told that I can choose whether I want to still use AJD or dBpoweramp property handler for FLAC files. I looked into configuration dialog and I set checkboxes. And here we have first problem. dBpoweamp offers "Exclusions list" instead of normal list where you choose what you want to enable rather than disable... I left FLAC unchecked as I thought that this means it wouldn't be enabled... This is very tricky and I think it SHOULD be changed. This dialog should show options to enable given property handlers and not to "left them disabled". This is very bad behavior - it seems that dBpoweramp is relatively aggressive with installing every functionality that it can handle, regarding of what user have currently installed in his system and it causes a mess. But this is not the end. I figured out what is going on after some time and I tried to disable FLAC property handler in dBpoweramp but with no results. Whatever I checked or unchecked, Explorer used always dBpa property handler for FLAC files... Another RealPlayer? But OK, I gave up. I decided that property handler provider is not the most important thing - it should just work.
But here we have 2nd problem. dBpa property handler uses "YEAR" field instead of "DATE" field to store Windows Explorer property "Year of release". I was mad, but I decided to REBUILD MY WHOLE LIBRARY (which is quite large) and use YEAR field instead of DATE field. I changed this in EVERY FILE on my PC. I started using DATE field for "Exact date" - consisting of year, month and day. And then I realized third problem, the one with rating... I edit metadata mostly in foobar. And I continuously have problems with RATING field. I have to fill it differently for FLAC files and differently for mp3 files - still make mistakes. I could try to curse dBpa property handler for FLAC files, but this will require that I rebuild my library again to its previous state and I remember how many problems it generated for the first time... So I think you have achieved your goal... I am stuck with dBpa.
In this case I require and officially request that this broken behavior with RATING will be fixed and for every supported files dBpa will add values like it is done in ID3 "popularimeter" frame. This will be additionally consistent in way that AJD FLAC Property Handler works. And it will make values of RATING tag consistent for all file types.

EDIT:
Nice. Today I updated dBpa from 14.3 to 14.4. Now I see that despite my settings to disable both FLAC and MP3 property handler from dBpa, they both are working. Very nice. Good software. F***ng recommended. Thank you.

Crashing and "Error Writing File" when using Album Art

$

I just bought PerfectTUNES to optimize my collection of approximately 600 albums ripped with CD Ripper from dBpoweramp in Flac to a Synology NAS. First attempts to fix low resolution albums crashed, but the program found many matches before it crashed, but they were not applied. At later attempts, these previous fixes came up as "No Match". As it continued searching, there were a few matches, many "No match" and then "Error Writing File". Out 138 low res albums, only 35 were fixed. Manually it is easy to find a good match for most of the albums, but before the fixes are applied, the program crashes.
Nedless to say, I am not satisfied, especially after spending $36.
What can be done to make it work properly?

Album Art keys off of exactly what?

$

First the good news: PerfectTUNES accurate rip worked like a charm on my 1000+ album collection. Found 20 CRC errors. I re-ripped those CDs and fixed 12 of the 20. Very happy with the result!

Now the not-so-good news: PerfectTUNES album art does not work for my collection, period. I want to up the resolution on all of my folder.jpg files, exactly as advertised. Clearly the "listening" worked perfectly as the accurate rip analysis was spot-on. But when I run album art and click the magic "fix all" button, it fails to find ANY matches. If I go through album-by-album, I get a screen full of 20-some-odd choices, with at most one match and sometimes no matches. But I am not going to do that for 1000+ albums.

Potential "oddity" in my collection: I preface the album name with the year of release. So instead of "Best of Fubar" my album name is "2013 - Best of Fubar". Does PerfectTUNES album art get "lost" because the album text doesn't match? This would surprise me, as the "album fingerprinting" algorithm is working flawlessly as mentioned above.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

finer vbr quality resolution for aac music converter

Please provide a smaller step on the Music Converter dialogue for selecting the VBR quality for m4a Nero AAC. Please change the step size from 1.0 to 0.5 for selecting the VBR quality or provide a checkbox that selects fine resolution control similar to the panel for configuring the ogg vorbis converter.

Using the Batch Converter with the Music Converter is great, but the limited control over the VBR quality settings is frustrating.

Problem with DSP

Hi,

I seem to have a problem with the DSP "Move destination file on Error" in CD Ripper.

I have set it up like this:

The idea is to just rename the problematic file to <filename>-ERROR in its original folder.

I am getting a <filename>-ERROR file, but the the original file is NOT deleted.

Could this be a bug?

song title, artist meta information is seen from windwos media player

I have audio cds from Indian movies. I am able to see title , artist information from windows media player but not from dbpoweramp. Is there anything I can do in dbpoweramp to populate the meta data so that I don't need to enter my self. It is pain to type text in English from Telugu.

I also have these questions.

1. Is there anyway to find the size of audio cd and size of each song and bit rate etc? I don't mind using any other software. I tried to find using imgburn, but it says size of disk 698mb and free space is 198mb. I want to get an idea of original size of each song etc.

2. When I put Indian cd, how does dbpoweramp gets meta data? Does it use based on size of song? Not sure if it is acurate rip or what does it means?

3. I have 18 songs out of which 12 songs from one movie and 6 from other movie. Is it possible to select first 12 songs and get meta data and do same for second movie?
Right now it shows album as second movie name. I am thinking it is better idea to rip two times with global meta data like year, album artist relevant to each and also select different album art.

Thanks for your help.

Strange duplicates

I have been experimenting with the unregistered version of Perfect Tunes. The De-Dup option seems to be a bit erratic. Some of the duplicates which it identifies are genuine but for example I have a number of different recordings of classic piano pieces such as Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. When comparing FLAC files, De-Dup manages to convince itself that the same variations from discs by Schnabel, Brendel & Lewis are duplicates. Similarly, it identifies movements of Beethoven Piano Concertos played by different orchestras and soloists as duplicates. While they are very similar in length, I find it hard to believe that they are identical to one frame. All of the CDs were ripped using dbPoweramp CD-Ripper and were checked against the AccurateRip database when created. The pieces are not identical.

Another oddity is that it believes that all of the tracks from a recording of Bartok's Miraculous Mandarin are duplicates of each other. This appears to be a misinterpretation of the original source information. This disk was one of a very small number of Naxos DVD-Audio disks that I purchased and converted to WAV files and then to FLAC.
